Vitold Fokin was well known in the Donbass, he has a lot of political experience. However, his words did not coincide with the position of the Ukrainian delegation in the trilateral contact group on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass, said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.

Vitold Fokin, fired from the trilateral contact group (TCG) on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass, was collectively invited. The decision on his membership in the TCG was made taking into account his political experience, said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine (OPU), Andriy Yermak, on the night of October 3 on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24 .

“Mr. Fokin was born in Donbass. He has come a long way, started as a miner and worked in various companies. He is well known in Donbass. In addition, he has a lot of political experience. He has been prime minister twice,” Yermak said.

The OPU head stressed that the TCG is a consulting platform, not a government representative office.

“Consequently, no decision made by the TCG carries with it political obligations for the state of Ukraine. The people who work there do so on a voluntary basis, do not receive a salary and in fact draw up decisions that are then implemented through the bodies that can implement these decisions legally and politically to accept ”, he said.

Fokin’s words did not coincide with the position of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, so the president of Ukraine decided to exclude him. accepted Ermak.

He added that if Fokin had made such statements earlier, he would not have been invited to work at TCG.

“Our freedom, independence is one of the most important achievements. Everyone has the right to their own position, but if it is made public, it must be evaluated,” he added.

Fokin, 87, became the first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG on August 18. Ermak recommended it to the rest of the negotiators. In an interview with “1 + 1,” which came out on September 12, Fokin’s granddaughter Masha said that it was she who introduced her grandfather to Yermak.

On September 29, during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning, Fokin said he was not sure whether Ukraine and Russia were at war. He also said that he would never be an enemy of Russia.

The committee recommended that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemn Fokin’s remarks and fire him.

After that, Yermak said that Fokin should leave the TCG and the President’s Office said they were “unpleasantly surprised” by the negotiator’s statements.

Fokine’s statements were criticized by Ukrainian politicians. In particular, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, called him “a scoundrel and a plush idiot,” former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that “Fokins” are “a diagnosis, a disease of anti -Ukrainian, anti-state, inferiority, Russian flattery, Soviet dense “.

The vice president of the Servants of the People parliamentary faction, Yevhenia Kravchuk, expressed surprise that Fokin’s personal opinion on the situation in Donbas does not coincide with the official position of the Ukrainian delegation.

Kravchuk, his first deputy prime minister – minister for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov and deputy Alexander Merezhko released a statement saying they were “unpleasantly surprised” by Fokin’s words.

On September 30, Zelensky fired Fokin from the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG and relieved him of his duties as deputy head of the delegation.
