Armenia allowed to discuss the entry of Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the possibility of discussing the deployment of Russian peacekeepers to Nagorno Karabakh within the OSCE Minsk Group. As the country co-chair of this group, Russia should take measures for security and peace in Nagorno-Karabakh, said Pashinyan.

Armenia is ready to discuss the issue of the introduction of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. This was announced on Saturday, October 3, by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with the Al Jazeera television channel, which he published on Facebook.

“These issues can be discussed in a broader context within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group,” said the head of the Armenian government.

In the context of Russia’s assistance to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Pashinyan hinted at a Russian military base in Armenia and cooperation in the field of security.



“Russia, as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, must take all necessary measures for security and peace in Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.

On September 27, the biggest conflict in recent years broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry accused Armenia of “large-scale provocation”, bombardment of Azerbaijani army positions and announced the beginning of a “swift counteroffensive”. The Armenian authorities, in turn, declared that the Azerbaijani army had launched an offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh. During the conflict, the parties used tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft.

Turkey is open declared support for Azerbaijan in conflict with Armenia. President Recep Erdogan said that Armenia must go the Nagorno-Karabakh territory occupied by him.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he did not turn to Russia for military help in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. However, Russian military trucks Ural and GAZ were seen at the positions of the units of the Nagorno-Karabakh armed formations. One of the vehicles contained anti-tank ammunition.

Russia, for its part, called on Turkey and other countries to convince Azerbaijan and Armenia to return to a peaceful settlement.

Yerevan October 2 declared disposition for negotiations on a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh mediated by the countries – co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group at the leadership level. Armenia believes that the negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh are possible only after the end of the aggression Azerbaijan.
