Cyprus has not received the sanctions promised by the EU for Turkey

No sanctions have been imposed on Turkey yet

The head of the European Commission assured that the EU will introduce restrictive measures against Ankara at any time if it does not stop provoking Cyprus.

EU leaders did not impose sanctions on Turkey for its actions in the eastern Mediterranean, as Cyprus claimed. This was announced on Friday, October 2, by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, at a press conference after the first day of the EU summit.

“We agreed on an approach that opens up a dual strategy. We decided that we want to give an opportunity to political dialogue in common interests. On the other hand, we have expressed our commitment to our values and our full solidarity with Greece and Cyprus,” Michel said.

At the same time, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, assured that the EU would introduce restrictive measures against Ankara at any time if it does not leave the waters of the Mediterranean Sea disputed with Athens.

“We have tools that we can apply immediately, but that is not what we want now,” underlined the EC holder.

Let us recall, according to media reports, that the EU intended to impose sanctions against Turkey if Cyprus stops blocking the adoption of sanctions against Belarus.

As you know, the summit participants decided to implement the sanctions against Minsk, which were agreed in August. At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko was not included in the “black” list.
