The question of the replacement of the deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation in the negotiations of the trilateral contact group on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass – the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitold Fokin – has not yet been discussed after his removal. This was stated by the head of the delegation Leonid Kravchuk.
The first president of Ukraine, the head of the delegation in the trilateral contact group on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass, Leonid Kravchuk, said that he did not know in advance the position of his former deputy, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitold Fokin, towards the aggressor country of Russia. He said this in a comment to TSN.ua.
Kravchuk tried to justify Fokine’s words that there is no war between Ukraine and Russia, the latter’s long absence from the political and news space. At the same time, he called Fokine “an experienced and conscientious person.”
According to the former president, after the scandalous statements, they spoke with Fokin, while he made it clear that he would like to resolve the issue of staying himself in the delegation, “without waiting for an administrative increase.”
“I know that the head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak also spoke with him. I don’t know what they talked about, but I know what they talked about. And I think our statement means the delegation’s statement, and Andrei Yermak’s own position, too. he made it public, this provided the basis or materials for the president to resolve this issue by decree, “said Kravchuk.
He stressed that Fokine’s position was not known before his appointment and this position does not reflect the position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Yermak.
Kravchuk noted that the issue of replacing Fokine in the TCG has yet to be discussed and he’s not sure if this is necessary at this time.
On August 18, Fokin, 87, became the first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, recommended it to the rest of the negotiators.
On September 29, during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning, Fokin said he was not sure whether Ukraine and Russia were at war. He also said that he would never be an enemy of Russia.
The committee recommended that Zelensky condemn Fokine’s statements and dismiss him.
After that, Yermak said that Fokin should leave the TCG, and the President’s Office said they were “unpleasantly surprised” by the negotiator’s statements.
Fokine’s statements were criticized by Ukrainian politicians. In particular, mUkraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov called him “a bastard and a plush idiot”, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the “Fokins” are “diagnosis, the disease of anti-Ukrainian, anti-state, inferiority, flatter Russia, Soviet dense. ”
The deputy chairman of the Servants of the People parliamentary faction, Yevgenia Kravchuk, expressed surprise at the fact that Fokin’s personal opinion on the situation in Donbass does not coincide with the official position of the Ukrainian delegation.
Kravchuk, its first deputy prime minister – minister for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov and MP Alexander Merezhko released a statement saying they were “unpleasantly surprised” by Fokin’s words.
On September 30, Zelensky dismissed Fokin from the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG and relieved him of his duties as deputy head of the delegation.
