Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin announced the death of former Donetsk club forward Sergei Atelkin.

According to the director of the television channels Football 1/2/3 Alexander Denisov, the death occurred on the night of September 30 to October 1 due to heart problems.
The former forward turned 48 in January.
The footballer has scored 82 goals in 265 games with the miners. He played for the team when, in the 2001/2002 season, Shakhtar became the champion of Ukraine for the first time. He also won 4 Ukrainian Cups with the miners.
After completing his playing career, he worked as a national team coach for Shakhtar.
