Google unveiled a couple of new smartphones during its Launch Night In event. Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have a similar set of specifications and support dual-band 5G communications, but differ in positioning.
The Google Pixel 5 smartphone is a more premium device. At the same time, it received not a flagship processor, but a mid-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. This is a controversial move that will not be liked by all consumers, although Google in the Pixel series did not go for high performance and often set lower processor frequencies.
The camera has also undergone changes. Instead of the second telephoto module, the new product uses a wide-angle module with a 16-megapixel sensor. The main 12.2 megapixel module is in charge of zooming, complemented by an optical image stabilization system and proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms. A first for the Pixel series, the camera supports 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.
Another difference from the previous generation line is the lack of a larger model. Pixel 5 XL version is not available. Its role is played by the more affordable Pixel 4a 5G model, which received a larger screen, the same Snapdragon 765G processor with X52 modem, the same camera as the Pixel 5. The differences lie in other features. For example, the Pixel 4a 5G contains a smaller battery (3800 mAh vs 4000 mAh) and does not support wireless and reverse wireless charging.
The younger version has one less microphone, the body is made of polycarbonate. At the same time, the Pixel 5 version is made from recycled aluminum and features IP68 protection and Corning Gorilla Glass 6. But the Pixel 4a 5G has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Devices also differ in the amount of RAM installed. Detailed specifications of the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G smartphones are presented in the table below.
