Air leak location found in ISS

The source of the leak was found in the Russian Zvezda module. Now a specific leak is being established.

The site of the air leak on the ISS was found in the Russian Zvezda module, which houses the science team, TASS reports on Tuesday, September 29, citing the Roscosmos press service.

The department assured that the leak is now located. “A search is underway for a specific location for a possible leak,” Roscosmos said.

It is noted that the air leak does not threaten the ISS crew. In eight hours, the atmospheric pressure of the ISS dropped by 1 mm Hg.

“The current situation does not represent a threat to the life and health of the ISS crew and does not prevent the continuation of the flight of the ISS in manned mode,” the message says.

“In the next few days the reason for the decrease in atmospheric pressure will be found and the seal will be restored,” added Roscosmos.

Note that this is the second case of an air leak in the Russian segment of the ISS in two years. In 2018, a “man-made hole” was discovered in the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft. The reason for its appearance has not yet been mentioned.

Last week it emerged that the ISS is looking for air leaks. Verification began after Roscosmos reported the pressure drop. The state corporation of the Russian Federation said that, most likely, this happened in the modules of the American segment of the station.
