The Shevchenko District Court in Kiev refused to release Andrei Antonenko, accused of the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet. The petition was rejected.

The corresponding decision was made by the jury on Monday, reports RBC-Ukraine.

As Chief Judge Oksana Golub noted, the defense’s request to change Antonenko’s preventive measure was dismissed.

The court also decided to continue the process on October 8 at 2:30 p.m. On this day the speeches of the parties will be heard and the procedure for the examination of the evidence will be determined.

Note that the prosecution’s office announced the indictment in the Sheremet murder case. However, the investigation did not identify the clients and organizers of the journalist’s murder.

According to the indictment, the defendants Andrei Antonenko, Yulia Kuzmenko and Yana Dugar joined in a criminal group and decided to kill the journalist on the orders of unidentified persons.

RBC-Ukraine also wrote that on September 4, the court selected a jury to consider the Sheremet case. In total, seven people were submitted to the jury, but one of the contestants, Anna Chupina, recused herself, and the second, nurse Inna Kramarenko, was rejected after declaring that “doctors cannot be murderers.” Read more about this in the RBK-Ukraine report.
