In the central game of the third round of the Premier League, Liverpool hosted Arsenal from London. The teams approached the informational match with near-optimal compositions, so all attention was focused squarely on what was happening on the field. Unsurprisingly, the hosts took possession of the game and territorial advantage immediately after kickoff. But the initial pressure on Leno’s goal didn’t work for them. Everything was limited only to rolling the ball without finishing on goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s players won several corners in a row, but their filings did not result in shots on target. The opportunity to score was from the field: Mane hit the touch from close after Alexander-Arnold’s lumbago, and Leno reacted to this hit and parried the ball. The Merseysides continued to possess the advantage of the game, with the intention of putting pressure on the opponent. Alexander-Arnold came very close to scoring a goal after a long-range shot on goal off a rebound by Bellerin, but was impeded by the crossbar, which took the ball.

A few minutes later, Arsenal took the lead in a completely unexpected way. Robertson made a serious mistake, giving the ball to Lacazetta in the penalty area, and the forward made the most of his opportunity – 0: 1. However, the joy of the guests was short-lived, as they lost it in three minutes. Leno served the ball after Salah struck from an advantageous position, and Mane successfully played the finishing move: 1: 1. After that, Liverpool paused and then again actively advanced. The scored goal was not long in coming. Robertson corrected his mistake, responding to Alexander-Arnold’s serve and sending the ball past Leno – 2: 1.

Taking the lead, the “red” did not stop there, continuing to control the ball. The Londoners were going to attack her at all, focusing exclusively on defense, which didn’t give them a chance to level the score. The hosts, in turn, at the end of the first half went ahead without much illusion, already preparing to go to rest. Until the end of the first 45 minutes, there were no more shots on goal, so the score did not change.

Once play resumed, the Gunners took control of the ball, intending to score a quick ygol. They spent several unsuccessful minutes in the opponent’s half of the field, after which they again gave the initiative to the opponent. Merseysides, for his part, was in no hurry to attack, content with a smooth roll of the ball. Then they began to upload him to the penalty area, but these transmissions turned out not to be attended. They then nearly missed on a counterattack, but Lacazetta’s likely goal still would not have been counted for an offside position.

A few minutes later, Lacazetta already had a legal one-on-one outing with Alisson, but the Frenchman missed his chance and fired straight at the goalkeeper. Already in the reporter attack, Mane could have scored, breaking through from a roundabout after Firmino’s pass, but his shot lacked precision. Arteta decided to refresh the attack, releasing Pepe onto the field, but he was even more invisible than Willian, completely dissolving on the field. The hosts controlled the ball for a time in an outer half of the pitch, after which they gave it to the Londoners.

In one of the episodes, Ceballos cut the defense with a pass to Nketia, but Eddie failed to get ahead of Alisson who walked out the door. Also, the Gunners won two corners, which could have resulted in a goal, but in both cases Pepe couldn’t even hit the ball at the far post. Then it was Jota’s turn on the pitch, who came on as a substitute for Manet, making his debut for Liverpool in the Premier League. Salah did his best to get Diogo to score, but the Portuguese missed the goal from a lethal position. A few minutes later, Wijnaldum tried to pull Zhota into a position of shock, but Salah thought it was meant specifically for him; in the end, Mohammed prevented Diog and he himself could not hit the goal.

A few minutes later, the newcomer from the “reds” scored. David Luis hit the ball right at the Portuguese’s foot, and he only shot to the far corner – 3: 1. In injury time, the guests were able to close the gap after Aubameyang’s solo pass with a pass to Nketia, but Eddie couldn’t shoot on target. The final whistle from the head referee recorded a resolute victory for Liverpool, who remain untouched alongside Leicester and Everton. Arsenal are in the fifth row of the standings.

In the fourth round, Liverpool will travel to Birmingham to visit Aston Villa, while Arsenal will host Sheffield United.
