“Society waits.” Zelensky urged the Rada to quickly pass the National Anti-Corruption Strategy

The Verkhovna Rada should swiftly approve the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2020-2024. This was announced on September 28 at a meeting of the National Council for Anti-Corruption Policy by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the website of the head of state.

“The anti-corruption strategy must become the basis for fighting corruption. The anti-corruption strategy is a system of measures, the implementation of which can ensure the coordination of the work of police and state anti-corruption bodies at the national and local levels,” said the president.

Zelenskiy noted that the strategy provides for specific measures to punish corruption.

According to the head of state, the restart of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, the restitution of criminal responsibility for illicit enrichment, the introduction of a mechanism for civil forfeiture of property and the start of the work of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court did not it is enough to fight corruption.

“Society expects systemic and coordinated actions in the prevention of corruption, effective results of the activities of anti-corruption agencies of Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.

The draft law “On the foundations of state anti-corruption policy for 2020-2024”, initiated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on September 16. The head of government said then that the document should “coordinate all branches of government to effectively overcome and, more importantly, prevent corruption.”

In the Verkhovna Rada, the bill was registered on September 21 under number 4135. As of September 28, 6th day, the document is in the status “provided for review”.

According to a survey carried out in July by the Sociological Group “Rating” the most important problem in Ukraine its residents consider corruption in government agencies (48% of Ukrainians).
