President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev

As of midnight in the republic the decree of the head of state on the introduction of martial law and curfews came into force.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the introduction of martial law throughout the country as of September 28 amid the worsening conflict with Armenia. This was announced on Sunday, September 27, by Presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev during a briefing.

“From 00:00 hours on September 28, declare martial law throughout the territory of Azerbaijan”, – states in the document, which has already been approved by parliament.

By the same decree, the country’s authorities introduced a curfew, which will operate from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Kiev time), in Baku and in several other settlements. Most of them are near the hostilities region and on the border with Armenia.

During these hours, citizens are prohibited from leaving their homes without special permission and identity documents. In addition, traffic restrictions will take effect.

Let us remind you that on the morning of September 27, the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh intensified. Countries accuse each other of provocations. Ankara declared its support for Baku, while many countries, notably Ukraine, called on the parties to stop hostilities.
