Ukraine’s second racket Diana Yastremskaya (No. 28 WTA) ended her fight at the French Open tennis championship.
In the first round match, the Ukrainian lost to Australia’s representative Daria Gavrilova (No. 785 WTA), who was declared in the “frozen” classification.
Roland Garros. First circle
Dayana Yastremskaya (Ukraine) – Daria Gavrilova (Australia) – 4: 6, 3: 6
Don’t bend your heart, before the tournament there were great fears about Dayana’s current level of play. And although Roma gave a little confidence that the Ukrainian could do several laps, in reality everything turned out to be completely different.
It is not entirely clear how Yastremskaya prepared for the game against Gavrilova, whom the Ukrainian had already lost as a favorite once (then the bookmakers gave Dayana 1.3, today – 1.2). But our second racket frankly failed in the second full-time game.
Gavrilova, who just over a week lost to the Bulgarian Tomova in 80,000 in France (remember her from the Federation Cup matches), just made fun of the Ukrainian today. Daria quickly realized that Yastremskaya’s current level of form is below the pedestal and it just didn’t stop her from losing. Yes, he ran, he tried to drag the balls and throw them to the other half of the court, but Dayana outdid herself on meter runs from simple situations.
The events in the first and second sets were roughly the same. The first part of the game was even, and towards the end the Australian representative, who once ranked 20th in the WTA rankings, achieved the result she needed.
Overall, it’s a sad sight and it’s still unclear if Dayana will be able to change anything in her game this year. Maybe we should prepare for the next one now.
In the second round, Gavrilova will fight Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard (# 168 WTA).
Note that last year Yastremskaya also left Roland Garros after losing in the first round. Then she lost to the Spanish Carla Suárez Navarro.
