Vyacheslav Zolochevsky, a third-year cadet at Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University, was ejected from the An-26Sh plane during a crash, he did not jump, Zolochevsky’s father Vitaly said.

Vitaly Zolochevsky, father of the sole survivor of the An-26 military transport plane, a third-year cadet at the Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University Vyacheslav Zolochevsky, said that he himself had survived three plane crashes.

“I fell three times. The fact that my son survived suggests that he is his father’s son,” Vitaly Zlochevsky said in an interview with Segodnya.

The cadet’s father pointed out that his son had no fractures, “only bruises.”

“Everyone says he jumped out of the plane, but this is not entirely true. He was thrown out, he was pushed. I also know that he was trying to save his friend,” added Vitaly Zlochevsky.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, after a visit to the cadet at the hospital, said on September 26 on Facebook that Zlochevsky woke up near the wreckage of the plane.

“One of the guys nearby was on fire, and Slava was quick to put it out. He managed to give another cadet another chance, who, however, unfortunately, died of burns this morning. This is heroism in the middle of the killing field.” wrote.
