Lewis Hamilton was one step away from qualifying in Sochi.
British driver Mercedes, championship leader Lewis Hamilton, became the winner of the Russian Grand Prix qualifying, having achieved pole 96 in his career.
Second in qualifying in Sochi was Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, and Hamilton’s partner Valtteri Bottas closed the top three.
The most interesting moment was at the end of the second qualifying segment: Hamilton on his first fastest lap went off the track, so his result was not counted. When Lewis reached his second fastest lap, qualifying was halted due to Vettel’s accident. Seba turned, the front fender and wheel flew off.
As a result, Hamilton managed to do a fast loop a couple of seconds before the checkered flag and managed to go further, showing the fourth time of the second segment. One second late and he would have come out 15th.
The Russian Grand Prix race will take place on Sunday, September 27. An online broadcast of the race will be available on our website, starting at 14:00 Kiev time.
