Ukraine eliminated from European Championship due to positive tests for coronavirus

Today, September 26, in the Czech cities of Brno and Kurim, the last part of the European Volleyball Championship between youth teams under 20 years begins. Information appeared on the official website of the European Volleyball Confederation that the national teams of Turkey and Ukraine could not compete due to the presence of positive tests for the coronavirus.

The Ukrainian team led by Vladimir Romantsov and Anatoly Yanuschik got into the second group, where they had to play against the teams of Germany, Russia, Belarus, Holland and Turkey.

“It was obviously a difficult decision, but since the health of everyone involved in the tournament is the top priority, there was no choice but to comply with the strict protocols that exist to stop the spread of the new virus. EKV would like to thank the local organizers, as well as all participating teams for their understanding, cooperation and flexibility, which they showed during this unfortunate situation, we wish the Turkish and Ukrainian players a speedy recovery ”, says the official EKB website .

The competition organizers have already modified the European Championship calendar, which was drawn up through negotiations with all teams.

The president of the Volleyball Federation of Ukraine, Mikhail Melnyk, confirmed the information this morning.

“Unfortunately, our guys will not play in the U20 European Championship. Tough negotiations with the CEB, the Czech government and the competition organizers continued on the ground yesterday. But our team and the Turkish team were forced to leave the territory of the Czech Republic within 24 hours, the coronavirus was detected in one of our players (the Turks have two of those players), ”said Melnik.
