The last two weeks “Kolos” has been going through a super busy schedule, but at the same time very interesting. Having opened the local stadium with a victory over Lvov, the Kovalevites headed for the first European tour to Thessaloniki, where Aris awaited them as his favorite. Few people bet on the guys from Ruslan Kostyshin, but the guests, having mastered their emotions at first, clearly showed how they got to the European Cups. Unconditional compliance with the facility, dedication when playing defense and quick launch to counterattacks. Even a newcomer, experienced in high-level fights, Evgeny Seleznev, admired the actions of his teammates after the match.
From Greece, the Kovalevites immediately went to Lviv, where they achieved their third successive victory, beating Rukh. On Monday, Ruslan Kostyshin gave the players a well-deserved day off, and on Wednesday morning Kolos headed to Rijeka. Kolos’ mentor brought 21 players to Croatia: goalkeepers: Volynets, Kucheruk, Kucherenko; defenders: Gavrish, Petrov, Novak, Yemets, Maksimenko, Chernomorets; midfielders: Zadoya, Bogdanov, Milko, Kostyshin, Smirny, Ilyin, Orihovsky, Kravchenko, Antyukh, Morozko; forwards – Lysenko, Seleznev. Of those who were in Greece, there was no defender Zozuli and no forward Isayenko.
At Boryspil airport, the Kovalevites, by the way, crossed paths with another Euro debutant, Desna, who was heading to Wolfsburg. The footballers, having discussed the latest news and upcoming rivals, wished each other to qualify for the playoff round. Admittedly, Kolos’ task initially seems simpler: after all, Rijeka is not Wolfsburg at all. Croatian Mladen Bartulovich, who has spent many years in Ukraine, pointed out in an interview with Sport.ua that Rijeka and Kolos are quite comparable in their class. It is that the experience of the Croatian club, which is not surprising, is more.
Rijeka is an experienced fighter in the European Cup and a regular in the Europa League. However, last season the team failed to qualify. After having beaten Scotsman “Aberdeen” in two games, the Croats lost to “Ghent” in the playoff round, which then went on to the group of “Alexandria”. A memorable campaign for Rijeka is the 2016/17 campaign, when in the group stage in company with Milan, Austria and AEK, the Croats took third place, beating Milan and Austria once, in addition to drawing with for the Greeks.
The team finished last season in third place in the championship, 16 points behind Dynamo Zagreb. But the team did not run out of trophies: in the final of the Croatian Cup, Rijeka achieved a victory over Lokomotiv. This season, Kolos’ opponents have yet to find their game – there are two wins and two losses in four rounds. Rijeka played their last match on September 12, losing 0: 3 to Osijek.
On the eve of the match with Kolos, Rijeka suffered a significant loss of personnel. Antonio Colak, who has scored 26 goals in all competitions and became the championship’s top scorer, was sold to PAOK. To replace him, Sandro Kulenovic was hired from Dynamo Zagreb, but whether he will be able to replace the Croatian national team striker is a big question.
Rijeka prepares for the match with Kolos with great responsibility. “There are two games ahead of the semifinals and the final of the World Cup of our dreams. This is how we prepare, ”Croatian mentor Simon Rozhman said the day before. “We have enough experienced players who know what to expect and at the same time we have a lot of youth, energy and players who want to prove themselves. Kolos has won six wins in his last seven games. It is worth a lot to beat Aris in Greece, but we are confident and we think about our game ”, added the mentor.
Kolos’s mentor Ruslan Kostyshin noted the strength of the opponent, and also ensured that there is enough time to prepare for the match: “Rijeka” is the bronze medalist of the championship, he won the Croatian Cup. I think Rijeka’s team play is much better than Aris, who had a great individual performance. “
“We don’t feel any pressure, we don’t worry. The game will show who we really are. We are preparing calmly. We are in good physical condition. There were no special charges, there were three days to recover, which is enough ”.
Note that in 2009, Rijeka faced the Ukrainian club Metalist in the UEFA Cup. Kharkiv’s team beat the opposition in both games: 2: 1 away and 2: 0 at home. It is interesting that Vladimir Lysenko scored the winning goal at the legendary Kantrida Stadium. Rijeka will host Kolos in a different arena: Rujevica (Kantrida under reconstruction), but we hope that the winner of the winning goal will be the same as 11 years ago …
