Joint Efforts-2020 strategic command and staff exercises entered an active phase, the United States military arrived in Ukraine.

Large-scale military exercises “United Efforts 2020” are being carried out in Ukraine with the active participation of NATO countries. In total, around 12,000 people and 700 weapons and military equipment participate in the exercises. And in the skies over Kiev at low altitude, the CV-22B tilting engines of the US Air Force flew.

According to the legend of the exercises, one of the mechanized brigades of the Northern Operational Command, as an operational reserve, together with the 31st Brigade, is conducting an offensive in order to defeat the enemy and restore the state border.

The “culminating point” of these exercises was the offensive of the brigade in a step in the front up to 7 km and the assault and cleaning of the settlements. All of this was developed in cooperation with aviation.

The foreign partners – military personnel from the Armed Forces of the US, Canada, Great Britain – participate in the exercises as observers and controllers.

According to the representative of the United Multinational Training Group – Ukraine, which is based in the Yavoriv training ground, US Army Captain Derek Fankhauser, Ukrainian soldiers are competent, professional, know a lot and can. “Much of what we saw during these exercises is compatible with the actions of the NATO units. We are happy to work together with our Ukrainian colleagues. Then I ask them, where are their tanks? And they reply:” Yes, here they are. “But they are not visible, because they are well camouflaged,” said Captain Fankhauser.

Also during the exercises, the Ukrainian army used the FGM-148 Javelin ATGM. It is true that one of the Javelin did not work.

“Jewelin did not work, the rocket did not take off. Maybe this is an operator error, maybe something else, I need to solve it, I cannot say for sure now,” explained Major General Valery Zaluzhny, commander of the Northern Operational Command.

Russia’s response

At the same time, the active phase of the Caucasus-2020 exercises in Russia began. The army of the Russian Federation solved the destruction of objects of a simulated enemy using the Su-30SM, Su-34 South and West districts and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers of the RF Armed Forces Aerospace Forces.

Not without incident. The Su-30 fighter crashed. He was accidentally shot down by another Russian fighter jet flying with him in a pair of Su-35 fighters. Instead of shooting photographs, the Su-35 fired a real shot for some unknown reason. The pilots managed to eject.
