Dnipro-1 president Yuriy Bereza believes that the team’s new coach, Igor Jovichevich, should arrive in European competition later this season.
– Changing coaches is always stressful for the team. How and with what did Dnipro-1 get out of this situation?
– In fact, this stress started with “Kolos”, you know that very well. I really respect Dmitry Stanislavovich Mikhailenko. He made a great contribution to the creation of the club, he organized the team game. Everything will be judged in a historical context. But the moment came when we couldn’t work. Unfortunately, Dmitry Stanislavovich made the decision to resign and we had to take action accordingly. What was needed was a person who responded to the philosophy and what was being built for three years, what is happening in the stadium. It seems that we have succeeded. We’ll see. Only the game determines the success or failure of the coach. And I would not like to part with Dmitry Stanislavovich forever. Everything is possible, we have everything ahead of us, because we are a fairly young club.
– Introducing the coach to the team, he repeated the tasks of the season. Is the goal still the same?
– For me, the biggest shock was that we couldn’t make it to the European Cups. I think we wouldn’t be the worst there. Therefore, the task of getting into the European cups is the number one goal. We will see the rest during the season. We still have to survive the global challenges of Covid. I would like the fans to return to the stands as soon as possible. But we returned to the place where Dnipro-1 will dominate the soccer field.
– Judging by your communication with Jovichevich, you quickly found a common language.
– The fact is that from the moment the negotiations began, we were in video communication, we communicated a lot. His spirit and philosophy are in line with ours. Let’s see, time will tell, the grass and the ball. If there is a result, everything will be fine.
