Navalny was accompanied by his wife Julia at the hospital
On Wednesday, September 23, it became known that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was discharged from the German Charite clinic, where he had been for the past 32 days.
The results of the German examination indicate that Navalny was poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group of poisons. His followers say the same. Russian doctors claim that no traces of the poisoning were found when the politician was in the Omsk hospital. And Germany has yet to provide evidence of “Novichok” traces.
Germany and France have already spoken out on the poisoning, calling it “a crime against European principles.” The European Parliament adopted a resolution on sanctions and started talking about the possibility of halting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the same time, Nord Stream 2’s opponent, Donald Trump, reproached Germany for double standards.
He compiled a chronicle of Navalny’s disease, as well as how it influenced the international situation.
From Omsk to Berlin. Chronicle
On August 20, Alexei Navalny fell ill on board the plane while returning from Tomsk to Moscow. The plane landed urgently in Omsk, where the Russian opponent was transferred to a local emergency hospital. Navalny went into a medical coma.
Navalny’s team complained of the poisoning and insisted on receiving treatment abroad. Russian doctors said they found no traces of the poisoning. According to the conclusion of the Omsk doctors, the reason for the hospitalization could be a metabolic disorder.
Omsk doctors said the transportation could have a negative effect on Navalny’s condition until it stabilizes. However, on August 21 they gave the green light to the dismissal of the opponent, under the responsibility of his relatives. It was obvious that this decision had been agreed with the Russian authorities.
As a result, after a 44-hour stay in Omsk, on August 22, Navalny was transferred to Berlin on a charter plane and taken to the Charite clinic.
On August 24, German doctors said they found traces of poisoning with a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors. And on September 2, Germany announced that Navalny had been poisoned with a chemical warfare agent from the Novichok group.
To this, the chief toxicologist of the Omsk region, Alexander Sabaev, said that if the politician had been poisoned, doctors would have discovered that he had a malfunction of the kidneys, liver and lungs, but this was not recorded. Sabaev suggested that alcohol, diet, stress, and overwork could lead to deterioration in health.
On September 7, the politician came out of the coma. Starts to talk.
On September 14 it emerged that Navalny was completely disconnected from the fan, got out of bed alone and tried to walk.

On the same day, experts from France and Sweden confirmed Navalny’s poisoning with poison from the Novichok group, following German colleagues.
On September 18, it emerged that Navalny’s team took several bottles of sparkling water from a hotel room in Tomsk, brought them to Germany and then traces of Novichok were found on one of them.
On September 23, Navalny was released from a hospital in a Berlin clinic. Navalny was treated at Charite for 32 days, of which 24 days he was in intensive care. According to German doctors, a full recovery of the opponent is possible, but it is too early to assess the possible long-term consequences of his poisoning.
What is being said in the world about poisoning now?
Navalny’s recovery took place in the context of international processes.
On September 17, MEPs adopted a resolution regarding the poisoning. They called for an “urgent launch of an international investigation” into the Navalny poisoning, involving the EU, the UN, the Council of Europe and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Likewise, the resolution insists on the use of sanctions, with the help of which it will be possible to find and freeze accounts in the EU belonging to corrupt persons exposed in the investigations of the Alexei Navalny Anti-Corruption Fund. We are talking about high-ranking Russian officials. That is, they were, so to speak, charged in absentia with poisoning.
The president of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, called the adoption of the resolution as evidence that foreign special services are behind the situation with the poisoning of Navalny.
In Germany, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said authorities were considering halting construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. However, deputies from the German Bundestag were unable to pass the necessary resolution, as two mutually exclusive drafts of it document were immediately submitted for consideration.
The Kremlin asked not to link the construction of the pipeline with the poisoning of Navalny. “This is a commercial project, which is absolutely in line with the interests of both the Russian Federation and the EU countries, mainly Germany,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin.
The fact that the construction of Nord Stream 2 has nothing to do with Navalny was also stated by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen to his colleague Vladimir Zelensky.
From new comments – speaking at the UN General Assembly, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russia “will face the consequences” and, if “it does not immediately explain” Navalny’s poisoning by Novichok.
“This clarification must be swift and undeniable because we will ensure that our red lines are respected,” Macron said. At the same time, he did not specify how France would take action if Russia did not provide satisfactory explanations.
At the same time, in a telephone conversation with Macron, which was published by the French newspaper Le Monde, Putin called Navalny an “internet troublemaker” who could take the poison himself.
Donald Trump said he did not doubt the conclusions of the German doctors, but that the United States has yet to study the “figures and documents” of the case. In general, it is not being too active in the context of this scandal: the European Union is more concerned.
Mainly Trump was outraged that after the Navalny poisoning, Germany is building Nord Stream 2, demanding protection from NATO.
“Germany is making a deal, according to which it will pay Russia billions of dollars and, at the same time, we must protect Germany only from Russia,” Trump said.
Where has the situation with Navalny gone?
As you can see, so far Alexei’s poisoning has not resulted in sanctions against Moscow. And those considered at the theoretical probability level are personal in nature and do not add anything critical to relations between the Russian Federation and the EU.
Furthermore, at the EU level, the go-ahead has not yet been given to block the completion of Nord Stream 2.
It is clear that this is an intermediate result. And it can still change. Especially if some new circumstances of the Navalny poisoning are revealed, which will lead to new accusations against Moscow.
But so far everything is progressing according to a more favorable scenario for the Kremlin. There are many reasons for this.
firstNavalny is alive. And he began to recover relatively quickly. And this plays in favor of the statements of the Russians, who say that if they wanted to poison they would surely have poisoned them (this is one of the narratives of the Russian media today).
SecondlyThe very fact that Moscow quietly handed over Alexei for treatment in Germany suggests that there was nothing to hide.
In third place, there was information about Navalny’s rather unusual associates, who were with him on the day of the poisoning. We are talking about Maria Pevchikh, who, after the incident, not only flew to Berlin on a plane with Navalny without giving testimony to the police, but somehow removed the “poisoned” water from her hotel room.
Considering that Pevchikh lives in London and provides the Navalny fund with inside information about the accounts of Russian officials abroad, they began to speak in the Russian Federation about the British intelligence trail in this case.
This version is also supported by an absolutely complimentary interview with the singers of the British “BBC”, who during four minutes of conversation did not ask Maria a single question about her actions after the Navalny poisoning.
I mean, there is no certainty that the Kremlin has poisoned Navalny in Europe yet. However, we repeat, it is possible that the information is released in doses, as was the case with the Skripals. And new facts that compromise Russia will come to light.
Meanwhile, the situation is moving towards the fact that there will be no serious disagreements on this issue between the Russian Federation and the EU. The European Union is not eager to finish the story with Nord Stream. And so far, things have not gone beyond statements with questions directed at the Kremlin.
