The European Union will announce a new set of requirements for Ukraine in October

When assessing the situation for the allocation of a loan, the European Commission is looking at several points, said the EU ambassador.

Ukraine will be able to receive the first tranche of the loan program worth 1.2 billion euros only after receiving a loan from the International Monetary Fund. This was stated by the ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, in an interview with the RBC-Ukraine news agency, published on Wednesday, September 23.

When assessing the situation for the allocation of a loan, the European Commission is looking at several points, he said. Therefore, the EU loan is “politically connected” with the IMF loan program, the euro diplomat said.

Furthermore, the EU is concerned about the court decision on the Surkis brothers’ lawsuit against PrivatBank, as well as issues related to the independence of the National Bank from the Ukrainian authorities.

“… this is also what the European Commission is observing. Therefore, the payment of even the first tranche is not just a technical matter,” emphasized Maasikas.

To receive the second tranche of the loan, Ukraine will have to meet the full list of conditions that will be discussed at the Ukraine-EU summit in October.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina argued that the first tranche of the EU loan would be transferred without additional conditions.

We recall, the embassies of the United States and the European Union published a joint statement, which indicates that greater financial support from the Ukrainian authorities will depend on the election of a new head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
