The EU demands that NABU and SAP return to control of creditors

Ukraine may be deprived of a visa-free regime with the EU – if NABU and SAP are run by people not controlled by foreign creditors, the EU ambassador hinted

Legal constitutional clarity around NABU must be restored very quickly, said the EU ambassador to Ukraine.

The European Union is concerned about the possible withdrawal of anti-corruption agencies in Ukraine from the control of external creditors. This was stated by the ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, in an interview with the RBC-Ukraine news agency, published on Wednesday, September 23.

“We are concerned about some developments around the anti-corruption architecture,” said the European diplomat. At the same time, Maasikas emphasized that there are members of the Verkhovna Rada who seem to hate all this anti-corruption architecture.

According to him, the legal constitutional clarity around the National Anti-Corruption Office of Ukraine should be restored very quickly.

The Eurodiplomat also made it clear that Ukraine could be deprived of a visa-free regime with the EU, if NABU and SAP are run by people not controlled by foreign creditors.

“This should be a priority for the authorities. This, of course, is something that the EU and EU partners are watching very, very carefully. The visa liberalization process is evaluated every year and we will follow it very closely. , said.

Earlier, the embassies of the United States and the European Union issued a joint statement, in which they noted that increased financial support from the Ukrainian authorities will depend on the election of a new head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
