Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. During the conversation, the parties discussed the liberalization of visa-free travel for Ukrainians, the situation in Donbass and Belarus.
This was reported by the press service of the Presidency.
Trudeau called for the removal of artificial obstacles to the development of international trade to support national economies weakened by the pandemic, as well as to guarantee access for all countries to essential medical supplies.
Zelensky announced the interest of the Ukrainian side in the gradual liberalization of the visa regime for Ukrainians by Canada.
“Canada’s liberalization of the visa regime for Ukrainians remains an invariable topical issue for me. I hope that we can advance this process and achieve simplification for Ukrainians traveling to Canada,” he said.
The Ukrainian president also spoke about the situation in Donbass and Ukraine’s constant steps towards a peaceful settlement.
“Achieving peace in Donbass remains a key priority for me. Thank you for Canada’s strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state,” he said.
Zelensky and Trudeau also discussed the progress of reforms in Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Canada called Zelensky’s courageous steps towards reform of Ukraine and expressed support.
Recall that in September 2019, the government of Ukraine introduced a visa facilitation program with many countries in the world, including Canada.
Additionally, Zelensky asked Trudeau to expedite the visa-free process with Canada.
