Zelensky signs a decree on the energy sector

The presidential decree obliges the Cabinet of Ministers to submit to Rada bills on the construction of new power units at the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on urgent measures to stabilize the situation in the energy sector and further develop nuclear energy. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Tuesday, September 22.

Now, the Cabinet of Ministers within two months must submit to the Rada for its consideration bills on the location, design and construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant, as well as on the amendment of some laws of Ukraine with regard to improving the mechanism for using financial reserve funds to dismantle nuclear power units.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers is obliged to develop a long-term program for the development of nuclear energy as part of the implementation of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine for the period until 2035 Security, energy efficiency, competitiveness.

According to the decree, the government must ensure the improvement of the management of the state company Energoatom, in particular, accelerate the preparation and implementation of the corporatization of the company and urgently resolve the issue of transferring the management functions of the company to the Cabinet of Ministers

Finally, the Cabinet of Ministers should take measures to settle the debts with the electricity producers of the public sector of the economy as a result of its functions.

Please note that the decree is effective from the day of its publication.

Let us remind you that previously the Cabinet of Ministers changed the operating conditions of the energy market. Energoatom was allowed to sell 50% of the electricity generated at fixed prices instead of 90%.
