Brown bears return to the Chernobyl zone
The return of large animals to the Chernobyl zone may be due to the absence of people on these lands, as well as traces of their activities.
This year brown bears have been sighted in the Chernobyl zone for the first time in more than 100 years. BBC Ukraine reports.
“Due to lack of people, the bears have returned to us. Most likely they come from Belarus. We do not know how many of them are here. Some individuals may already live here permanently. It is also unknown whether they breed here. But this is just the beginning. Bears haven’t been here for about a hundred years, “said area researcher Sergei Gashchak.
Experts don’t yet know the exact number of animals. A significant number of lynxes and wolves were also observed in the area. The wolves came to the territory of the area, probably from Belarus.
The photo was previously reported to show the resurgence of the Chernobyl zone. On the 34th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN presented a virtual photographic exhibition.
In addition, images of the Chernobyl winter reserve appeared on the network. The photo was posted on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian State Agency for the Management of the Exclusion Zone.
