Microsoft has added ZeniMax Media, known primarily as the owner of Bethesda Softworks, to its Xbox game studio collection.
As part of the $ 7.5 billion deal, Xbox Games Studios will include Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios. Of course, Microsoft will also take over a number of iconic game franchises, including The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, DOOM, Quake, Dishonored, and more.
Meanwhile, there are still many questions about the consequences of the deal. For example, Arkane Studios’ action-packed Deathloop was supposed to be a temporary exclusive on PlayStation 5. Now that Microsoft has acquired the studio and the intellectual property, the game may remain exclusive, but now for Xbox Series S / X. It’s also interesting if the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout games will be cross-platform, or if Bethesda will now focus exclusively on Xbox and PC.
Anyone who has followed the Bethesda and Microsoft story knows that the two companies have always had a close relationship since Morrowind’s appearance on the original Xbox. All new Bethesda Softworks projects will now be available immediately as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
