Together with the current president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his predecessor, the people’s deputy of the European Solidarity Petro Poroshenko, would now go to the second round of the presidential elections. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kiev International Sociology Institute.
If the presidential elections in Ukraine were held in mid-September, the current head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, would have received the largest number of votes in the first round. This is demonstrated by the results of a survey carried out by the Kiev International Sociology Institute (KIIS), published on September 21.
According to KIIS, 31.8% of those surveyed are willing to support Zelensky.
Together with the current president, his predecessor as head of state, the popular deputy of “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko, who is ready to support 18.9% of Ukrainians, would have gone to the second round.
Another 13.3% of respondents would vote for the co-chair of the Opposition Platform – For Life, Yuriy Boyko, 9.8% – for the leader of Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko, 6.8% – for the former head of the SBU and the president of the Force and Honor party “Igor Smeshko, 6% – for the leader of the Radical Party Oleg Lyashko, 4.9% – for the leader of the” Civil Position “Anatoly Gritsenko, 2.3% – for the former People’s Deputy Alexander Vilkul.
Other candidates would have collectively obtained 6.1% of the popular vote.
The survey was conducted from September 12 to 16, 2020, using the CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview) method based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. The sample is representative of the adult population (18 years and over) of Ukraine, with the exception of occupied Crimea and certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. During the survey, 2000 interviews were conducted. The statistical error of the sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) does not exceed: 2.2% for indicators close to 50%, 2.1% – for indicators close to 25%, 1.4% – for indicators close to 10%.
In the first round of the presidential elections of March 2019, Zelensky obtained 30.24% of the votes, Poroshenko ranked second with 15.95%, they reached the second round. In the second round, which took place at the end of April, for Zelensky voted 73.22% voters, for Poroshenko – 24.45%.
