The Office of the President sees no reason to postpone the local elections. The postponement or cancellation of the elections is only possible in the event of a sharp deterioration in the daily incidence of the coronavirus.

This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine material “Viral campaign: Will the authorities solve the local elections?”.

According to the adviser to the head of the president’s office Mikhail Podolyak, while the situation with COVID-19 is more or less controlled. At the same time, postponement or cancellation of elections is a complex legal process that takes huge costs out of the budget and is likely to be the subject of lawsuits afterwards.

“That is, the reasons for the postponement must be so lethal and legally verified to be able to defend all this in court and have the right to legally cancel the large budgetary funds spent in organizing the process,” added Podolyak.

He believes that practically all political groups and opposition forces are actively “pumping” the issue of the postponement of the elections in the media.

“This is a banal, low-cost, uncreative, but very scandalous way to carry out an aggressive part of the propaganda campaign,” Podolyak said.

At the same time, the RBC-Ukraine source, surrounded by President Volodymyr Zelensky, believes that this thesis is being especially “promoted” by the telegram community, using it against the authorities.

“All these resources either have a Russian and pro-Russian trace. Or they lead to Igor Kolomoisky. That message is beneficial for them. This sends a signal to the voters: they say, the authorities are afraid and will cancel the elections, because they will lose,” the source.

At the same time, the ruling team does not plan to postpone the elections.

It was previously reported that the head of the Servant of the People party, Alexander Kornienko, believes there is no reason to postpone the elections.

We will recall, on September 10, the Kiev District Administrative Court opened a case for the cancellation of local elections.
