Belarusian opposition member Svetlana Tikhanovskaya spoke about the arrest of more than 240 women by security forces at a march in Minsk. In her opinion, Belarusians are ready to “de-anonymize those who carry out criminal warrants.”

Belarusian opposition member Svetlana Tikhanovskaya demanded the release of all women who were detained by security forces at a march in Minsk today. She posted such an appeal on the Telegram channel “Pool First” on September 19.

“All detainees must be released. Law enforcement officers must remember: Belarusians are ready to anonymize those who carry out criminal warrants,” Tikhanovskaya said.

According to her, during the action in the capital of Belarus, more than 240 residents of the country were arrested, including those born in 2004.

“You still have to look your people in the eye, which you must protect”, – she wrote.

Tikhanovskaya believes that the security forces who detained the women acted harshly.

Women’s marches in Belarus are held on weekends. They are dedicated to disagreeing with the fraud in the country’s presidential elections, against the violence of the security forces and the arrest of peaceful protesters. A week ago, on September 12, at such a march in Minsk detained several people.

Mass protests have been going on in Belarus since August 9. The protesters believe that the results of the presidential elections were falsified. According to official data, the current president of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, won with 80.1% of the voters. Tikhanovskaya came in second with 10.1% of the vote. At the same time, alternative exit polls showed the opposite picture: Tikhanovskaya’s confident victory.

The Belarusian security forces violently dispersed the demonstrations, in particular with the use of stun grenades, rubber bullets and water cannons. During the protests, about 10,000 protesters were detained, hundreds were injured and wounded. According to official figures, four protesters died.

Tikhanovskaya left for Lithuania after the elections. At headquarters Presidential candidate stated that she removed from the country by order of the authorities. Her husband remains in Belarus – blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky (he himself planned to run for president, but was arrested shortly before the elections).

Lukashenka accuses the opposition of trying to seize power and believes that the protests are financed by Western countries.
