For various reasons, it is still not possible to hold elections in certain Donbass territories, believes the speaker of parliament.

If the Verkhovna Rada introduces amendments to the resolution on local elections, its legitimacy throughout Ukraine will be controversial. This was announced on Saturday, September 19, by the Speaker of Parliament, Dmitry Razumkov, on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24.

According to him, the Rada must announce local elections no later than 90 days before the date of the vote. The decision on the current elections was made in 93 days.

“Today, to make any changes to this resolution is to question the legitimacy of holding elections throughout the state, not in a specific region, but simply in the state, because this contradicts other laws,” Razumkov said.

Furthermore, the speaker highlighted that the aforementioned resolution is not related to the Minsk agreements.

“The elections, according to the Minsk agreements, are the ninth point. I am not sure that today we can say that the previous eight have been fully implemented. So now I think that the resolution hinders someone in some way, not the all correct, to put it mildly, “he recalled.

Thus, according to Razumkov, today for various reasons it is impossible to hold elections in certain territories of Donbass.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian delegation of the Trilateral Contact Group, Leonid Kravchuk, said that changing the decree on local elections in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions is a prerequisite for continuing negotiations on the solution of the armed conflict in Donbas.
