In the first match of the day in the Premier League, Alexandria hosted the championship leader Vorskla Poltava. Immediately after the opening whistle, Vladimir Sharan’s chargers seized the ball under their control and went on the attack. They could have scored an early goal thanks to a dangerous free kick they got, but their serve did not result in a shot on goal. The hosts then made some great positional attacks with shots on goal, but they posed no threat to Reznik.
In time, Poltava took the initiative and moved to the middle of someone else’s field. The Yuri Maksimov charges carried out several significant attacks, but resulted in shots on target. Closer to the middle of the first half, the advantage of the guests became more tangible. In the 24th minute they managed to open an account – Stepanyuk took advantage of the rebound of the ball in the penalty area and sent it to the far corner – 0: 1. After a missed goal, the Alexandrians regained control of the ball and went on the attack . They won some dangerous sets followed by shots on goal, but they weren’t dangerous.
Then the guests took the initiative again and scored the second goal, but it was rightly not counted for an offside position. In two more episodes, Puzlin could have distinguished himself, but at first the Croatian shot very imprecisely and then prepared a shot on goal for too long, allowing Pashayev to knock out the ball for a corner. A little later, Vorskla won several corners that could help to score, but his rallies were unsuccessful. The last minutes of the first half of the meeting were conducted in a measured manner. The teams no longer hit on goal, so the score did not change before the break.
After the resumption of play, the guests regained possession of the playing advantage. They moved to the middle of someone else’s field, where they carried out attack after attack. The first chance to score led to a goal. Perduta escaped from Miroshnichenko and rolled the ball under the blow to Puzlin, and David sent it back to the net – 0: 2. Providing a comfortable lead on the scoreboard, Maksimov’s defenders gave the ball to the opponent’s possession, falling to his own half of the field.
The hosts were unsuccessful up front for a long time, but then they almost scored – the crossbar came to Reznik’s aid after Gritsuk struck from outside the penalty area. Soon Sharan made three substitutions at a time to strengthen the attack. However, the appearance on the field of Ustimenko, Bezborodko and Zaderaki did not benefit the team in the end. Although the Alexandrians began to force their way into the goal more frequently, these attacks posed no real threat to Reznik.
The guests were counting on successful counterattacks, one of which could lead to a goal, but Shcherbak missed the ball after Kulach served. Later on, Kane had a chance to score, which got into a shock position and shot into the near corner, but Pankiv was ready for such a blow. The rest of the time the guests had to defend themselves a lot. Sharan’s sentries desperately tried to revive the intrigue, but neither positional attacks nor service from set pieces led to a dangerous moment. Poltava confidently brought the match to its logical conclusion and finally celebrated a comfortable victory. Maximov’s team continues without losses, having strengthened in the front row of the standings.
