As part of the third round, the unexpected leader of the UPL, Vorskla Poltava, arrived at KSK “Nika”. However, with all due respect to the “Rukh” and “Ingulets” players, whom Poltava had previously beaten, today the “green-white” faced an opponent of a slightly different level. Furthermore, the home team was motivated by their undoubted desire to rehab for the upsetting defeat at Minai. Add to this a disappointing statistic for Poltava: In the last four meetings with Oleksandriya, they were defeated without scoring a single goal.
And the “yellow-blacks” started the match aggressively, with a lot of pressure trying to bring confusion to the defensive lineups of the opponents. But despite the tense situation near the Vorskla penalty area, the Alexandrians failed to create dangerous chances. All I remember is Myshenko’s blow, which didn’t cause the goalkeeper much trouble.
The guests managed to suppress the initial assault of Vladimir Sharan’s team, after which they began to carry out their counterattacks. And in the middle of the first half of the match the ball ended up in Oleksandriya’s goal net. Stepanyuk was the first to bounce off the yellow-black penalty line, after which he hit a corner kick. Thus, the Vorskla striker scored a successful goal in the third game in a row.
The Alexandrians needed to more actively build their attack actions, which Sharan called them to as well, celebrating his birthday the day before. But the situation outside “Vorskla” only escalated during set pieces. But the match was on for Poltava, and the invited counterattacks looked very promising.
At the beginning of the second half, the yellow-blacks found themselves in a completely deplorable situation. Perduta on the right made a foray into the penalty area and put the ball into Puzlin’s leg, who had to get into an empty corner. Note that this goal was the 100th conceded by Oleksandriya under the leadership of Vladimir Sharan.
The Alexandrians continued to try unsuccessfully to get close to the opponents’ penalty area. The compact staggered defense of the town of Poltava performed almost smoothly. Only in the middle of the second half, when the ‘Verdiblancos’ were notoriously tired, the home team began to have scoring chances. Gritsuk was the first to come back, hitting the crossbar from the center area in front of the penalty area. Soon Tretyakov, who burst into the penalty area from the right, fired over the target.
But the moments described above turned out to be only a fragmentary explosion of activity carried out by the “yellow-blacks.” Vorskla played with confidence and earned a well deserved victory. At the same time, Yuri Maksimov won the coaches’ duel against Vladimir Sharan for the first time. Poltava achieved the third victory in the new championship and continues to lead the classification.
In the next round, today’s opponents will play home matches: Oleksandriya will face Dnipro-1 and Poltava will play Mariupol.
