The North Ossetian Bar Association stripped Elman Pashayev of his lawyer status for a disciplinary offense. The lawyer became famous after the trial in the case of an accident, the culprit of which was the Russian artist Mikhail Efremov.

In Russia, the former defender of the artist Mikhail Efremov Elman Pashayev has been deprived of his lawyer status, the press service of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers reported on September 18.

The Council of the Bar Association of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania concluded that there was a disciplinary offense in the lawyer’s performance.

The president of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, Yuri Pilipenko, on whose initiative the disciplinary procedure was initiated, described this decision as the most appropriate to the current situation. “If it were not for the level of scandal established by Elman Pashayev himself, the disciplinary process could not have taken place or could have ended with another punishment measure,” Pilipenko stressed.

The Federal Chamber twice noted that Pashayev violated the requirements of the lawyer’s code of professional ethics “in connection with his public activity in a high-profile case,” the press service said.

Efremov caused an accident in central Moscow on the night of June 8… His Jeep Grand Cherokee entered the opposite lane and collided with a Lada pickup. The driver of the van Sergey Zakharov later died in hospital from his injuries.

On September 8, the Presnensky Court in Moscow found Efremov guilty of an accident that resulted in the death of one person. The actor was sentenced to eight years in a general regime colony.

Pashaev was Efremov’s lawyer during the trial. On August 21, in a court session, Efremov said he was refusing to receive his services, but on August 25 it emerged that the actor had signed a new agreement with Pashayev.

Efremov changed his testimony about his guilt in an accident several times, admitting or denying it. Pashayev insisted that his client was not involved in the accident and accused Zakharov’s relatives of greed. The lawyer also read the testimony of witnesses who claimed that Efremov was not driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee, although video confirmed that the artist exited the car through the driver’s door after the accident.

Journalists covering the trial called Pashayev’s behavior a “clown.”
