Scientists have studied how worms will behave during vibration
Ukrainian researchers working in Australia received the Shnobel Prize for Comics “for achievements that make you laugh first, then think”. The Ukrainians conducted a scientific experiment with worms.
The Ukrainian scientific physicist Ivan Maksimov and the mathematician Andrey Pototsky received the Shnobel Prize in the Physics nomination for the study of earthworms. The comic award for them was a complete surprise, writes The Guardian.
Ukrainians work at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. They investigated the bodily behavior of the worms under the influence of vibration.
“We did not plan to solve any specific problem or scientific problem. I decided to apply vibration using a loudspeaker, so I sent out various instrumental sound signals. And they started moving like water,” said Ivan Maksimov.
They found that the vibrations cause worms to form patterns similar to those that water droplets form in response to vibration.
Now the Ukrainians are thinking in which area their research could be useful.
