The outbreak of the coronavirus disease COVID-19 in the world is spiraling out of control. The UN stressed that the number of victims of the pandemic is close to one million.

This was stated by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, according to the UN press service.
“The outbreak is spiraling out of control,” Guterres said, noting that “one million lives will soon be lost to the virus.”
He called on countries for a global ceasefire, emphasizing that the coronavirus is “the number one global security threat in the world today.”
“Let’s find out: there is no panacea for a pandemic,” the UN secretary general said, adding that many are pinning their hopes on the coronavirus vaccine.
“A vaccine alone cannot solve this crisis, and certainly not in the near future,” Guterisch said.
He suggests treating the vaccine as a “global public good” that should be available to the general public, but this requires “a significant jump in funding.”

- The adaptive quarantine has been extended in Ukraine until November.
