The best Belarus team at the end of last season and the champion of Israel played the fate of a ticket to the decisive qualifying round for the group stage of the Champions League of the 2020/21 season.

The hosts took control of the ball from the first minutes, while the Dynamo preferred the match as “number two”. The first two dangerous moments were created by the Israelis, thanks to overload and numerical superiority on the right flank of the attack.

“Maccabi” made a lot of side passes and tested the physics of the Dynamo. Serhiy Kovalchuk’s players spent most of their playing time behind the ball line, used a very low defensive block and defended in their own half. In the first half of the meeting, the left flank of the guests was “on fire”: Kandil was simply breaking through the Pechenin zone.

Brest began to slowly move the game away from his baseline. Captain Sergei Kislyak was the most active member of the Dynamo, the midfielder tried to disperse the rare counterattacks from the guests, but the Dynamo had a lot of marriage and fuss ahead of them. In the 25th minute of the match, the team with the Ukrainians Milevsky and Khacheridi tied the game. The main threat from the “Dynamo” came after the set pieces in the other half of the field. Artem Milevsky in the first half went unnoticed and rarely touched the ball, the Ukrainian moved too slowly down the field and it was not typical of him to make mistakes when handling the ball in simple situations.

Teams took a break with zeros on the scoreboard, the class of teams is roughly the same. The prolonged positional “Maccabi” attacks and the “Dynamo” counterattacks did not bring an advantage to the sides.

At the beginning of the second half, Maccabi opened the scoring after a rather controversial penalty. The guests played a corner kick, and Dynamo leader Kislyak kept the Israeli footballer in his penalty area. The referee signaled the point and host player Biton converted the 11 meters – 1: 0.

In the 60th minute, Brest’s mentor Sergei Kovalchuk had to make a forced substitution: Ukrainian defender Yevgeny Khacheridi injured his neck after a horse fight. Instead of the former player of the Kiev “Dynamo”, Alexander Pavlovets entered the field.

After a failed goal, the Dynamo stepped up, launched a lot of forces on the attack and managed to create several dangerous moments for Senegalese striker Diallo. The teams switched roles for a while: Brest now had more ball possession and was trying to attack positionally, while the Israeli champion acted on counterattacks.

In the end, Brest faded and there was a feeling that it was “Maccabi” who needed to recover and run with all his might forward. The Tel Aviv team had a few corners and could double the lead. Milevsky, like Khacheridi, did not finish the match. Artyom in the 85th minute of the match was replaced by his namesake, Bykov. The 35-year-old Ukrainian soccer veteran looked very tough in this match.

“Dynamo” ended the match by inertia: without strength, and without ideas of how to open the Israeli defense … As a result, the minimal victory of the hosts, “Maccabi” goes to the fourth qualifying round of the main European Cup , where he will play against the Austrian “Salzburg”. The Tel Aviv team went through three qualifying stages of the Champions League with a goal difference of 6: 0. In turn, Sergei Kovalchuk’s team falls in the Europa League classification, in the fourth round of the route of the Champions.
