Denisova called on representatives of international missions, human rights organizations and the diplomatic corps to force the Russian Federation to stop the illegal detentions of Ukrainian citizens.
The Rostov court sentenced the defendants in the case of the second bakhchisarai group from Hizb ut-Tahrir to the maximum sentences in a strictly regime colony. This was announced on Wednesday, September 16, by the authorized representative of the Verkhovna Rada for human rights Lyudmila Denisova.
“110 years in a maximum security colony for seven: the Rostov court delivered such a verdict in the Hizb ut-Tahrir criminal case. The eighth, Ernest Ametov, was acquitted and released,” he said.
Crimean Tatars received the following maximum sentences in a strict regime colony: Marlen Asanov – 19 years, Mamet Belyalov – 18 years, Servant Mustavaeva – 14 years, Edem Smailov – 13 years, Sairan Saliev – 16 years, Timur Ibragimov – 17 years, Servant Zekiryaev – 13 years.
Denisova called on representatives of international missions, human rights organizations and the diplomatic corps to force the Russian Federation to stop the illegal detentions of Ukrainian citizens and return them to their homeland.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry protested against the new sentences of seven convicts in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.
The ministry called on Russia to reverse the court’s decision and release the illegally convicted Crimean Tatars. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also makes an appeal to the international community.
“We call on the international community to respond to such a shameful decision by the occupying state, to categorically condemn Russia’s illegal practice of prosecuting dissent,” the message says.
The department also called for increased pressure on the Russian Federation, including sanctions.
