Russian Defense Minister arrives in Belarus
Belarus and Russia plan to intensify military exercises. Lukashenko expects new types of weapons from Putin.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to provide new types of weapons. He affirmed this in a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday, September 16, BelTA reports.
“I also asked the president of Russia about some types of weapons. I told him that when he arrives, we will see what we need to really strengthen in terms of the State Union. There is nothing to fear, we are ready to do it,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, recent events show that “we have to be more daring to protect the interests of both Belarusians and Russians.”
Lukashenka believes that if anyone thinks that Belarus has weakened, that it will not stand, that Russia will step aside, then “this is reasoning for fools.”
“We can maintain the situation not only in Belarus, but also along the perimeter of our borders. You can be sure of our reliability in terms of defending our common Homeland from Brest to Vladivostok,” Lukashenka assured.
Furthermore, Lukashenka suggested to Shoigu that he continue the military exercises of the Slavic Brotherhood near Brest and that he think about new joint exercises.
“We are not going to pressure anyone to do something insolently, but we must take care of our interests,” he said.
Shoigu, in turn, said that Belarus and Russia had previously planned to hold around 130 military events this year.
“Unfortunately, the program was only 30% fulfilled. We need to reach at least 70% by the end of the year. And for this we need to harden and carry out the second stage of the exercises that are underway. In October we will have the next exercises” Shoigu said. …
