Since 2013, the iPad Air has gone through a couple of updates and logically added features, with almost no design changes. But the fourth generation, which was just unveiled at the company’s first fall presentation, has largely replaced the iPad Pro and, along with it, received a number of nice additions.

Let’s start with the design. The iPad Air is now as angular on the sides as the iPad Pro. The case size is 247.6 × 178.5 × 6.1mm and weighs 458 grams. In front of him, as the company calls it, full-screen design. The screen has been increased to 10.9 inches, but it is still an IPS (Liquid Retina Display) matrix. The resolution is 2360 × 1640 pixels. There is also support for the P3 color space and True Tone technology.

Unlike the previous generation, the new iPad Air works with Apple Pencil 2 and is compatible with Smart Keyboard Folio and Magic Keyboard.

And now, not only the iPad Pro can boast of the presence of stereo speakers. They are already equipped with the new Air, which also has speakers on both sides of the screen. Added to this are several new body colors, of which there are only five: Space Gray, Silver, Rose Gold, Sky Blue and Green. The last two are new not only for iPad Aid, but for all Apple tablets in general.

Another innovation for the company’s tablets is a fingerprint scanner (Touch ID), which is now built into the power button (and the home button on the iPad Air is gone). This sensor serves as the only user authentication method, Face ID technology will remain the prerogative of the iPad Pro.

The main camera has also been updated (relative to the previous generation Air, because the sensor here, again, is from the iPad Pro). So on the back there is now a 12-megapixel camera with an aperture of ƒ / 1.8, while the FaceTime HD front camera is still 7-megapixel with the same feature set.

Performance will be increased with the new 5-nanometer Apple A14 Bionic chip. It includes 6 CPU cores, a 4-core graphics accelerator, and a 16-core neural engine. There is a 40% increase in CPU performance and a 30% increase in graphics processing. Among other hardware updates, we can highlight the compatibility with Wi-Fi 6. The amount of memory has not changed: 64 and 256 GB, and the amount of RAM, as always, is not specified.

The autonomy of the new generation still remains at the level of 10 hours when working with a Wi-Fi connection and 9 from mobile networks (battery capacity – 28.6 Wh). But as of now, the iPad Air is also charged with USB-C and not with the Lightning connector. A 20-watt power supply is supplied with the tablet.

The new iPad Air without a mobile module will cost $ 599 for 64GB and $ 749 for 256GB of storage, and with LTE – $ 729 and $ 879, respectively. The new items will be on sale in October this year.
