Local elections in Donbass will not be held until March

It is no longer possible to stop the electoral process in the courts. Local elections in Donbass can be held in March.

This year, elections in the Donbass controlled territories are no longer possible, the head of the Central Election Commission Oleg Didenko said on Tuesday, September 15, the CEC press service reported.

“The first elections can be held twice a year: in October and March. In the future, we plan to contact the relevant civil-military administrations regarding security in these territories. As soon as the necessary conditions are met, elections will be scheduled.” , said.

Didenko pointed out that it is no longer possible to stop the electoral process in the courts.

Stopping the electoral process is only possible if a state of emergency or martial law is introduced in Ukraine or in certain localities, the CEC recalled.

Recall that on August 8, the CEC canceled the elections in the controlled territories of Donbass. We are talking about ten united territorial communities of the Bakhmutsky, Volnovakhsky, Mariupol and Pokrovsky districts of the Donetsk region and eight Severodonetsk and Schastyensky districts of the Lugansk region. This decision was appealed to the court.

Note that today the CEC began accepting candidate documents for local elections. Acceptance of documents will be completed on September 24. Subsequently, the campaign process will begin, which must be completed before the day of silence on October 24.
