Today, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a rather late resolution on the situation in Belarus.
More than a month has passed since the presidential elections in this country. And so, finally, the Verkhovna Rada decided that they were not democratic.
True, the resolution turned out to be a bit evasive: Kiev did not dare to call Lukashenko outright illegitimate, as they did in the European Union. But the act turned out to be mildly hostile to the current Belarus leadership. Which has not lost power and, apparently, will continue in its place in the coming years.
That is, a serious step was taken to deteriorate relations with the “sister state”, this is how Belarus is named in the Rada resolution.
This gives us a lot of problems. Now, in addition to the border with the Russian Federation, Crimea and the “hot spot” in Donbass, Ukraine may receive an extended cordon with another hostile country. Destroying good relations with the closest neighbors – Belarusians.
“Strana” understood the consequences of Rada’s decision.
Which parliament approved in the Lukashenka elections?
Strana has already published the full text of the resolution.
He says the elections in Belarus were undemocratic, the counting of votes was carried out in a non-transparent manner, and the country’s authorities used repressive methods against their fellow citizens.
In this sense, the Rada supports the sanctions that Europe has imposed on those who falsified elections and participated in the dispersal of protests and brutal arrests. It is true that this statement remained purely declarative; in fact, Kiev has not yet joined the sanctions.
Separately, the deputies walked as far as possible to send troops from Russia or the CSTO to Belarus; the Rada opposed this. “We will regard such a step as a direct threat to the common European security and the security of Ukraine,” said the MPs, characteristically placing “common European security” first and Ukrainian security second.
Overall, it sounded like a kind of indistinct threat, which, of course, should be attributed to rhetorical methods.
Furthermore, we repeat, it is not directly said that Lukashenka is an illegitimate president in the eyes of Ukraine (although this is implicit). That is, the authors clearly wanted to write a compromise document, from their point of view. In addition, a radical declaration proposed by the Golos deputies was presented to the Rada. Where it is directly stated that Ukraine does not recognize Pero Padre as head of state.
For the resolution, the “servants of the people” gave only 151 votes, the rest were helped by the pro-western factions – “EU”, “Golos” and “Batkivshchyna”. In other words, it was already clear from this fact that the speech was about some kind of solidarity with the European Union, which, in line with Ukraine, today condemned the Belarusian leadership.
And the fact that the resolution appeared only today suggests that the deputies postponed this issue as best they could, not wanting to spoil relations with neighbors. But today they still voted, and with a minimum margin of two votes. In other words, it was difficult to collect votes for this “decree”.
Reaction to criticism of Belarus
Why the Rada decided to criticize Belarus only today, analyzes the Telegram channel Politics of the Country.
“The Rada resolution on Belarus will undoubtedly be perceived in Minsk as interference in the country’s internal affairs. And it will further worsen the already more than tense relations between the two countries.”
The Ukrainian authorities understood this and therefore took more than a month. But as a result, it apparently succumbed to consolidated pressure from the West. “
The faction of the “Platform of the Opposition for Life” opposed the resolution. HLSA MP Alexander Kachny from the Rada rostrum called this resolution interference in the internal affairs of Belarus and asked how the Rada could adopt such a resolution criticizing the elections and violence in a neighboring country, if we ourselves we have 500 thousand Donbass residents deprived of the right to vote, and in the streets Violence against the opposition and journalists is rampant.
Several deputies of the people of the Servant of the People (the faction only gave 151 votes in favor) also criticized the “decree”.
Even on the eve of the vote, MP Maxim Buzhansky asked him to fail.
“Colleagues, I urge you not to appear ridiculous and absurd and refrain from supporting any decision that interferes in the internal affairs of sovereign Belarus.
The only neighboring state with which we have not yet managed to spoil our relations ”.
“We passed a resolution on Belarus. We advise our neighbors how to solve their problems. Fortunately, there is experience. It is true that experience is not how to solve problems, but how to create them and then live with them as long as possible. But this is also a experience”.
Voted yellow (with card – Ed.).
Despite the calls of the fighters for their own political future under the guise of the fight for the happiness of the Belarusian people.
Voted yellow, because I am convinced that each nation must choose the future for itself, and interference in the internal affairs of a neighbor never benefits either the neighbor or the one who interferes ”, writes the people’s deputy Danil Getmantsev.
At the same time, the Servant of the People party officially supported this resolution, stating that the Rada gave “a clear assessment of events in the Republic of Belarus.” That is, the official position of the president’s party is for this resolution. But, taking into account the deficit, it was adopted by a minimal majority of votes (228) only with the help of Poroshenko’s party and “Voice”. Note that this is not the first time we have seen such a “Servants of the People-Poroshenko-Voice” coalition. In particular, the land sale law was also voted with a similar composition.
They also comment on the situation on social media.
Strana journalist Olesya Medvedeva called Minsk’s conviction “the height of hypocrisy”.
“The height of hypocrisy to adopt a resolution that the elections in Belarus were rigged and do not reflect the popular will, to condemn the violence, adds to the EU position on sanctions, at a time when in Ukraine:
– Human rights are not respected (and the refusal to respect them at the UN level);
– revelry of the radicals, violence in the streets against journalists and the opposition;
– political cases against the unwanted;
– Maidan, unconstitutional purge and amnesty for Maidan criminals;
– transportation and economic blockade of citizens of their own country;
– Belarus is a platform for negotiations on Donbass;
– 500 thousand Donbass citizens remain without the right to vote in local elections.
228 votes. CH + Poroshenko + Voice. A family coalition? So was it okay? I’m sure this foolish and myopic decision will not go unanswered.
But convolutions are not enough to think about the consequences. ”
Former People’s Deputy Vitaly Zhuravsky suggests that Belarus will not leave a hostile step unanswered.
“There is an outbreak of coronavirus in the country, the miners are on a clandestine strike for the second week, in the west of the country there are floods and the parliament is seriously discussing the situation in Belarus.
They decided to accept the statement. Stop meddling in other people’s business! Now Belarus will activate the response and cover its markets for us. And tomorrow the Ukrainian exporters, whom you are driving lost, will go to Parliament and ask you! Is this what you want? Let the Foreign Ministry take care of foreign policy! We have enough internal problems. “
“We are in the last friendly country,” writes lawyer Tatyana Montian.
Oleg Voloshin, OLE People’s Deputy, recalled that Ukraine, even in the eyes of Europe, is today remembered as a bad example for Belarus. Therefore, we do not have the right to teach to a neighboring country.
“The stupidity of the decision to adopt a resolution with harsh assessments of the situation in Belarus is quite obvious. If only because Ukraine was not forgotten in the context of what is happening in its neighbors anyway. Furthermore, the leaders, diplomats, politicians, commentators from the EU countries did not forget her.
But in what way? The chorus sounded unambiguous: “We don’t want a repeat of the Ukrainian scenario.” Obviously, we have not been able to be a good example, but we have become a formidable warning.
And now the poor acknowledged student suddenly decided to teach the good guy, who was falling asleep on the exam, the skills to pass the session. Silly and funny. It is significant that the servers only gave 151 votes. So all is not lost with them. “
