The European Union declared that it does not recognize the legitimacy of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. The EU will review its relations with Belarus.
This was stated in a briefing by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
The EU considers that the new presidential elections under the auspices of the OSCE are the best solution to the situation in Belarus.
“We consider the August 9 elections to be rigged … We do not recognize Lukashenka as the legitimate president of Belarus,” he said.
As a reminder, the EU is preparing sanctions against 40 Belarusian politicians, but President Alexander Lukashenko is in doubt.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine wrote that the EU is discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
Earlier, the US State Department stated that the United States of America is discussing with the European Union the introduction of targeted sanctions against Belarus.
It was also reported that the EU is preparing sanctions against 40 Belarusian politicians.
