Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN calls the Russian elections in Crimea a “grave violation of international law”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a strong protest and condemned the holding of Russian elections on the territory of the annexed Crimean peninsula.

The diplomat informed the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guteris, and the members of the UN Security Council about the so-called “elections” in the annexed territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
“Ukraine calls on foreign states and international organizations to condemn the illegal actions of the Russian Federation and clearly declare the non-recognition of the results, as well as to increase political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation, including by expanding sanctions,” he said. The diplomat stressed that the “elections” in Crimea are a continuation of serious violations by the Russian Federation of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
