Ukraine’s second racket Diana Yastremskaya (# 29 WTA) started successfully in the Premier 5 Series in Rome.
The 20-year-old Ukrainian won the first round over Italy’s Camila Georgi (No. 69 WTA), who received a wild card from the organizers.
Rome. First circle
Diana Yastremskaya (Ukraine) – Camila Georgie (Italy) – 7: 5, 6: 7 (5), 6: 4
Those who saw today’s fight are true heroes. Given that the level of tennis after a quick transition from hard to clay left much to be desired for both players.
Although in the first set everything started with a lot of joy, at least for us. Georgie hit the first serve 1 out of 3 times and it could have been lukewarm. Overall, the Ukrainian did just that until the score was 5: 2. After that there was a slight slippage, Dayana lost three games in a row, but still in the first game she was much better and more accurate. It was clear that the Italian was not very prepared for this match.
The second game started with two breaks and a gradual decrease in Yastremskaya’s level of play. She lost concentration, began to make more mistakes, practically not inferior in this component to her rival. What can we say, if in the seventh game the Ukrainian made four double errors, in total the girls had 14 of them per game. Fortunately, after this episode they managed to make a break backwards, but this moment very well demonstrated the level of confrontation. As in the previous match of these tennis players, Dayana had matchball in the second set, but could not use it. The game changed to a tie-break, where the Italian turned out to be more successful.
The girls played the third full-time match on clay today, the scenarios of all the fights were painfully similar: Dayana’s victory in the first set, Kamila – in the second. I wanted the Ukrainian to win this damn third set this time and the start was promising. Yastremskaya took the lead with a 3: 1 break, but the Italian managed to catch up. The Ukrainian returned to take the lead with the score 4: 4, after which she went out to serve for the match. It was tough, I had to play a break point, but this peak was still taken. The result will definitely come first, no matter what the game is.
In the next round, Yastremskaya will play Amanda Anisimova from the USA (No. 27 WTA).
Let’s remember that in Palermo Dayana lost the quarterfinal match to Camila by match balls.
