In a meeting with the security forces, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said about the futility of deploying the country’s armed forces on the border with Poland and Lithuania for a long time if not necessary.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko called for the withdrawal of troops from the country’s western border if NATO troops in Poland and Lithuania finished the exercises. This is stated in a statement published on the website of the President of Belarus on September 12 after a meeting with the power unit of the security council.

“If the NATO troops in Poland, Lithuania, in principle, have finished the so-called exercises and no longer move there, we should respond appropriately to this. We cannot be there for long without the need to keep the armed forces in such number. Besides, it’s not cheap, “he added. – said Lukashenka.

The president demanded proposals from the security forces if NATO troops were still training in this region.

“If the same events occur there as a month ago, then your suggestions on how we will react in this regard. In a word, more actions of our armed forces on the western border, based on the situation that is developing in Poland and Lithuania. “, – added Lukashenka.

Lukashenko put Belarusian army units on the western borders into full combat readiness on 18 August. On August 15, he ordered the transfer of an airborne brigade from Vitebsk to Grodno, on the western border of the country.

On August 22, Lukashenka said that the “color revolutions” scenario is being used in Belarus. According to him, NATO troops have already moved to the country’s borders.

“Everyone is moving to drag a presumed new president here. Appeal to the western states, in this case to NATO, to protect the population. They bring troops, and Belarus can be finished,” said the Belarusian president.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, in response to Lukashenko’s statement, noted that the Belarusian leader is trying to divert attention from the internal problems of his country.

Lukashenka also claimed that neighboring countries are increasing their military power. NATO denied these accusations.

From August 17 to 20, military exercises were held in Belarus, near the border with Lithuania.

Belarus Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin announced today the transfer of the 2nd Tank Battalion of the 69th US Tank Regiment 15 kilometers from the state border.
