In Rivne, sabotage at the water company was prevented

The sabotage could lead to a prolonged shutdown of the water supply to almost 50% of domestic and industrial consumers in Rivne and other areas of the region.

Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine suppressed the intelligence and subversive activities of an FSB agent of the Russian Federation, who transmitted military information to the enemy, and also tried to sabotage one of the important objects of the critical infrastructure of the Rivne region. This was reported by the SBU press center on Saturday, September 12.

The operations established that in May 2020, a resident of the Odessa region contacted a member of the FSB staff of the Russian Federation. On the instructions of the curator, he first transmitted information about one of the military installations in the Odessa region to a foreign special service. In addition, the attacker offered representatives of the enemy special services their services to commit the murders of the Ukrainian military involved in the Joint Forces operation.

In September 2020, the FSB agent received a new assignment from the curators: to carry out a sabotage on one of the objects of the Rivne regional water company.

Counterintelligence agents detained the attacker immediately after planting an explosive device.

Committing an act of sabotage at a critical infrastructure facility could lead to a prolonged disruption of the water supply to nearly 50% of domestic and industrial consumers in Rivne and other areas of the region. This would have negative consequences in the economic, social and sanitary-epidemiological spheres of life in the region.

Now the question of the complaint by the SBU investigators to the detainee on suspicion of having committed crimes under Part 1 of article 111 (high treason) and art. 113 (sabotage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the choice of a preventive measure.
