Ukraine’s first president Leonid Kravchuk said that if the need arises, he is ready to visit the occupied territories, accompanied by his Russian counterpart in the trilateral contact group Boris Gryzlov.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group, the country’s first president, Leonid Kravchuk, in an interview with Radio NV did not rule out his trip to the occupied areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
According to him, he made such a proposal during the last TCG meeting, convened in connection with the aggravation of the situation near the town of Shumy.
“There was a very heated discussion, and I suggested to the Russian side that I was ready to go to Shumy if the head of the Russian delegation would go with me. [Борис] Gryzlov. I didn’t get a direct reply, but during the discussion, [заместитель главы администрации президента РФ Дмитрий] Kozak said that Russia did not and will not participate in such trips, because it does not concern him. I said this is Russia’s position and I cannot change it, but if such a need arises (I emphasize it again: not because of some imagery or heroism), I am definitely ready to go, “said Kravchuk.
On September 5, the leader of the DPR militants, Denis Pushilin, demanded the Ukrainian military to vacate the fortified positions in the Shumy settlement area, as they allegedly settled “illegally”. Russian terrorist troops were going to bomb these positions.
Ukraine convened an emergency meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on September 6 due to Pushilin’s threats.
The commander of the Joint Forces operation in Donbass, Lieutenant General Volodymyr Kravchenko, said that the Ukrainian army did not violate the agreements in the village of Shumy. He expressed the opinion that the militants want to break the truce with their accusations.
On September 10, the OSCE, accompanied by DPR militants, planned to inspect the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Shumy settlement area, an agreement on such patrol was reached on September 9 at a meeting of the TCG . The Office of the President of Ukraine said that the presence of militants in the patrol would be limited.
On September 10, the Defense Ministry announced that the inspection had been canceled due to the fact that the occupants were not prepared for Ukraine’s “constructive and common sense” position on the inspection.
On the same day, militants fired small arms at the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Shumov.
On September 11, Kravchuk expressed hope that an inspection of the fortifications near Shumy could be carried out in a few days.
