Belarusian parliament regrets decision of Lithuanian Seim
Lithuanian MPs have shown complete disregard for standards of good neighborliness, common sense and elementary parliamentary ethics, the Belarusian parliament noted.
The resolution of the Lithuanian Seimas recognizing Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as the elected leader of Belarus is an unceremonious attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the country. This was stated by Andrei Savinykh, chairman of the international affairs commission of the House of Representatives (lower house) of the Belarusian National Assembly, who heads the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA), TASS reports on Friday 11 of September.
“We declare with regret that the resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is an unceremonious and clumsy attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of Belarus,” Savinykh said.
He noted that the resolution of the Lithuanian parliament “confirms once again the absurdity of the efforts of the Lithuanian side in the desire to give meaning and significance to their political actions.”
“The Lithuanian MPs who voted in favor of this decision simply showed a complete disregard for the standards of good neighborliness, common sense and elementary parliamentary ethics,” said the head of the commission.
Savinykh believes that with these actions Lithuanian MPs “undermine the credibility of all external mediation proposals, demonstrating their real and non-declarative meaning.”
On the eve of the Lithuanian Seimas adopted a resolution, according to which Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the Opposition Coordination Council, created on her initiative, were recognized as the only legal representatives of Belarus. At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko was called an “illegitimate leader”.
