The beginning of a new era threatens the current quite high valuations of assets and the growth of public and corporate debt.
The geopolitical “age of disorder” will define tensions between the US and China
China continues on its way to “regain its historic role as a global economic giant” but prefers its own values to Western liberalism, the study says. Therefore, the world is threatened by “a clash of cultures and interests, especially given China’s focus on the status of the world’s largest economy.”
Disorder will define a new era, initially at least, for a decade or more. “Not all messes are bad,” notes Deutsche Bank. “We must emphasize that the new era should not be taken as a reason to abandon the purchase of financial assets, as the new era will bring large-scale interventions. Deutsche Bank analysts have identified eight major events that will define the “age of disorder”:
1. The deterioration of relations between the United States and China and the rejection of unlimited globalization.
2. crunch time for Europe: the COVID-19 pandemic has given new impetus to integration processes, but Europe is likely to remain in a state of economic stagnation with prospects for political fragmentation;
3. Increase in debt and turn “helicopter money distribution” into normal business.
4. probable increase in inflation due to fiscal and monetary expansion (instead of money, it is better to keep savings in assets)
5. increase in economic inequality at the beginning of the post-poid era, but later – a reversal of this trend: states will begin to tax the rich more;
6. Strengthening the differences between different generations.
Millennials and young people will catch up with older generations in numbers by 2030, allowing them to determine the results of democratic elections;
7. Strengthening of the discussion around climate change.
8. Technological revolution or stock market bubble.
