Local elections in Donbass: Rada to review resolution, Kozak says

Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, claims that during the talks in Berlin, the Ukrainian side agreed to review the resolution on the convening of local elections in Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada will reportedly consider the question of adjusting the resolution already adopted in the near future.

He stated this during a press conference after a meeting of political advisers to the Normandy Four in Berlin.

According to Kozak, the adoption by the Ukrainian parliament of a decree on the appointment of local elections worsened the situation with the resolution of the conflict, because the conditions for holding local elections specified in the decree contradict the Minsk agreements.

“We agreed that in the near future the Rada will consider a draft resolution that corrects the resolution that was adopted on July 15,” he said.

We will recall, on July 15, that the Rada appointed local elections in Ukraine for October 25. The parliament resolution said that local elections in ORDLO could only be held after Ukraine gained control of the border and the withdrawal of occupation troops from Donbass territory.

In Russia, they immediately announced that the Rada resolution contradicted the Minsk agreements, because they set different conditions for holding local elections in Donbass.

However, the first vice president of the mono-majority faction, Oleksandr Kornienko, argued that the Rada did not intend to change the resolution on local elections.
