The growth of payment card fraud in the National Bank is explained by the increase in the volume of non-monetary payments during the quarantine period

At the same time, the average amount of losses due to fraudulent operation in the first half of the year decreased from UAH 2,100 to UAH 1819.

The number of cases of fraud with payment cards and bank accounts in Ukraine in January-June increased to 47,500 compared to 34,700 in the same period in 2019. This was announced by the National Bank.

The number of fraudulent transactions during the reporting period increased from 72.6 million UAH to 86.4 million UAH. The share of fraudulent transaction losses in the total volume of all payments increased from 0.0043% to 0.0048%.

At the same time, the average amount of fraudulent transaction losses in the first half of the year decreased from UAH 2,100 to UAH 1,819. The number of banks whose clients were affected by fraudulent transactions dropped from 30 to 27.

“At the same time, we realize that for each individual who has suffered losses due to scammers, this can be a significant and, of course, an unpleasant event,” emphasized Lesya Voytitskaya, head of the NBU’s public relations department.

As reported, the cyber police covered three large fraudulent call centers, which “posed as bank security services to steal money from Ukrainians’ cards.”
